For the love of...cotton pajamas?!?

Alex has this new thing.  He doesn't like the feel of his pajama's.  Any of them.  He's officially boycotted all his jammies and is now sleeping in his underwear.  He's decided he doesn't like the "feel" of his old pajamas.

He simply woke up one morning and decided against polyester.

Honestly, I can't say I blame him.  The feel of polyester makes my skin crawl.  He now only wants 100% cotton.

I've tired to wait this one out for a few days, read: almost two weeks now, to see if something will change but he's sticking to his guns.  Only 100% cotton will do.

So I've gone off to Target and Walmart to see what they have.

And they don't have shit.

You know how hard it is to find pajama's that are not flame retardant?

It's bloody impossible.

And then I went back to Wally World and look what I found.

Ag-ent-PPPP!!!

I guess Disney and Walmarth don't care that much about burning babies in a house fire.  And I have to say, I don't care either.

The fact that Perry up there is from the twin bastards called Phineas and Ferb is just icing on the cake in our world.  Alex loves them.  Does it matter that I will forever have the phrase, "Moooom, Phineas and Ferb are making a title sequence!!" seared in my brain?  No.  The boy loves them.

I have learned to the necessary skill called 'selective hearing' so I'm living around them.

I bought as many as they had and came home a hero.

If there's a fire, you're gonna die!!!

Now I have to go check all our fire alarms.  It won't do to have a fire when he's wearing those things.

  1. I have always found it amazing that people don't make a fuss about this. Child and not fire retardant. Same goes with halloween costumes.

My nieces did not have Asperger's or Autism and they were freakish about their pj's or nightgowns. They had to be soft and silky. Where the hell did that come from none of us knew. I would buy them these expensive nightgowns like they were the Kardashians. Or as Grandma would say, The Gabor sisters...tee hee. My sister couldn't afford these so Auntie bought them. But where does this come from to begin with? It was crazy nuts. They too would say they would not wear anything that those scratchy polyester ones. It made me giggle but I was just the Aunt. That's what we do. :-)

    1. Peggy--the weird thing is, my daughter loves the silky ones too! It's weird. My son writhes on the floor just to take a look at her pajamas!!!

  2. Selective hearing is the key to life! That and Walmart! I was on the hunt for pjs too. Toots has to wear his to school today for Dr. Seuss Day ( why?! I still don't get this...) and I didn't want him going in flimsy light pjs plus there's something "yuck" about him wearing them to school. I spent an hour ++. Looking for button long sleeved pjs ...Walmart, Children's Place, PB for Kids ,Macy's and Nordys. Finally found some at Nordstrom Rack. Because even though it rained 4 inches in 2 days - hey it's spring!!! Everything here is short sleeved!!
I hate pjs. And Alex is right. Cotton is king!!

    1. We're doing the Dr Suess day thing too---its his birthday today so they hop it all up and want the kids to wear green today. I don't get it but Alex was all, "NO to the green and NO to the Lorax and NO to the green eggs and ham." He almost gagged when I told him thats what was on the menu for lunch. He has packed since day one but he HAS to know what they're serving. He may still puke at lunch when he sees it. Who knows....

I don't get the PG's to school either. Weird.

Next time you need long sleeve button up, let me know. They were on clearance here!!!

  3. Flame resistant? I don't think they come like that here in Canada. Is underage smoking a big issue where you are?

    1. HAHAHA!!! I get them being flame resistant but really, in a fire, are the PJ's gonna save you? Probably not.

  4. What's up with boys jammies? All we've ever gotten for the girls was 100% cotton. He can borrow "purple" when Lily's done with it.

Related note: Today is jammy day at Lily's school in celebration of Dr. Suess's birthday.

  5. All my son will ever wear is cotton or flannel pajama pants. No shirt. And in the summer when it's warm, he won't even wear them. He just sleeps in his underwear.

I never considered the fire retardant angle at all. But if the smoke alarms ever go off in the middle of the night, my son will go into complete sensory overload and run screaming for the hills, so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a problem.

    1. Grace, I was laughing my ass off because you're right...my kid would be out the door and AT the fire department before I even had the drool wiped off my chin...

  6. I've never bought into the whole flame retardant clothing because once you use any sort of fabric softener (downy, bounce, snuggle) it strips the retardant from the clothing.

When Tommy was that age, he was so anti pants. For YEARS he slept in big t-shirts..lol Long enough to cover the tighty whiteys lol (or goodnights)

  7. My son can't cope with nylon (nor can his dad) - everything is cotton. Flame retardant, I'm not sure they do this over here; it used to worry me in the early days. I'm off to check this out.

  8. My kids never wore that flame retardant crap because *I* couldn't stand the feel of it, so I completely sympathize with Alex.

And to explain the pjs at school for Dr. Seuss's birthday--It's considered "snuggle up with a good book" day, and Dr. Seuss wrote the best books to snuggle up with!

    1. I'm with Alex too, I can't stand the feel of the polyester.

Ohhhhh. I wish our teachers would have explained that!!!

  9. I do not like flame retardant pajamas. I do not like them in a box, I do not like them with a fox.

I do not like the snug-fitting pajamas. I do not like them here or there, I do not like them anywhere.

We will not buy your polyester junk. We will not be your polyester punk.

We like cotton, yes we do. And so does Alex He does too.

    2. OH MY FUCKING GAWD. Flan that is pure genius. GENIUS. And you added the Dr. Seuss element which means you're either on crack right now or seriously need to get a job making more Dr. Seuss books.

      Awesome. Just Awesome!

  11. How about making PJ's out of flash paper like the magicians use? It wouldn't burn, it would just be gone in a flash!

  12. What I really want to know is why they don't make those jammies in my size! Don't adults get to have fun jammies too?

I hope that all these tornadoes have passed you by!

  13. I can't believe you found 100% cotton jammies for KIDS. I rant and swear and freak out whenever I'm out trying to find some 100% cotton for my kids. I hate, hate, hate it when it's total polyester. Hm...as I type this my kid is sleeping in nada. Now should I be afraid???

  14. Hahaha....'the twin bastards'!! Would you go right of me if I told you that I have this compunction to sing that last line every time my boy watches that programme??!!

My boy now only wears fleece pajama bottoms and absolutely refuses to wear the top no mater how cold it is at night. He also HATES the feel of his school uniform and wears his tracksuit 4 days of the week. How I'm gonna get him wearing the uniform in secondary school come September is anyone's guess!

BTW, to answer your question over on mine.... I had quite a substantial hangover the next day!! Which got blown away by a 3/4 hour rehearsal the next day!!!

  15. Hey - has anyone seen Perry? Love, love, love that cartoon! That and Fairly Odd Parents. I don't know. Call me a freak. It's true.

  16. HA! Flannery that was awesome!! And my son also only wears pure cotton clothing. Always has. My MIL always likes to make the "joke": "oh, sorry, I thought he was in his pajamas" whenever we visit because my son likes to wear comfortable clothes. I know she says it to wind me up, but at this stage? I couldn't care less.

You guys get a Dr Seuss day?? I'm so jealous!!! Not that it would make any difference to me here, since I'm having to homeschool him this year and all... They also don't really celebrate St Patrick's here like they do in the States. I *really* miss that!!

Those are cute pajamas though, well done for finding them! And also, **lol** yeah, in the event of a fire, i don't think flame retardant clothes will save anyone. Mattresses and furniture? Sure, it might slow it down, but a full blown house fire spreads *fast*. (There have been many cases of yobs starting fires in people's houses on the news and the damage they cause to property and human life?.... Just devastating.)

  17. In case crisis looms again (over pjs anyway)--Old Navy! I don't really understand the flame retardant thing--I just try to keep my kids away from, well...fire!

  18. I agree with Alex. I don't like the feel of pajamas either. When I roll over at night, I get all caught up in them. Dr. Oz says you can get better sleep in the buff, but I'll stick to underwear.

Oh, and about that "selective hearing"...I'm right there with ya girl.

  19. I can't blame Alex. Anything but cotton just feels icky. Always has to me. If I had known then what I know now, my kids would've made sense way earlier.

  20. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but have you ever heard of Hatley? They make really cute soft PJ's. Wal--Mart is a heck of a lot cheaper though.
