I heart Ryan but hate unicorns. Still love me?

I'm linking up with Sunday over at Adventures in Extreme Parenthood today.  Playing around with Ryan Gosling like he's my sexy hot social skills partner is fun.  I mean really fun.  I will warn you though, all the opinions from here on out are mine.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around some things going around in our community lately.  I've intentionally tried to keep my mouth shut and head low.  I've been struggling with so much else I've not had the intestinal fortitude to articulate how I feel on some things and quite honestly I'm still wrapping my brain around what so many people have said.

There has been a lot said about hating Autism and how that implies a whole host of other things.  It's no surprise here that I have a love affair with foul language.  Sometimes nothing is better than a good old fashioned bad word.  But there is one word we simply do not use in our house---and it's the word HATE.  We banned it early on because for me it's a word that's so powerful, so visceral, so...I don't know.  It brings whatever you are saying up a notch and once said, it puts you on the brink of no return.

But that's just me.  That's what we do at our house.  It may not be what you do at your house and that's your right.  Your right to use your words as you see fit.

I cannot, and will not, condemn someone else for using their words differently than me.  They have a different story.  Sometimes a very different story and I truly can see how they have come to the conclusions they have.  I wonder how they do it.  I wonder how they survive and I am in awe of them for their unconditional love of their child.  They have a right to how they feel and what they say.  And I admire them for it.  I will not judge.  How can I?  It's not my place.

Nor is it anybody elses.

I am the mom of a boy who has Autism.  That is all I know.

PS---Blogger's not playing nice and not letting some people leave comments or letting me leave tracks at other blogs.  Feel free to hate that too!

    1. I so know what you mean. When I was out this AM, nearly killing myself, I looked down at the stroller and there was glitter all over it. I busted out laughing!!!

  4. I must admit I have a weakness for glitter and rainbows, but I'm with Rhonda on trying to clean glitter up. It never goes away!

  5. You had me at "hate kittens"...

    Yeah, I'm a dirty hater.

    1. But do you hate the kittens that ride unicorns? Or the unicorns that ride kittens? See, a girl can have an in-depth discussion on that topic.

  6. Yeah, glitter never goes away. That probably explains why those twilight vampires sparkle.

    1. OMG, you are so right. It still doesn't explain Bella. I don't get her.

  7. Lizbeth - I don't love Ryan in the same way you do but hating kittens and unicorns made me love him even more now. Gerard Butler has some competition now. :-)

I love how the word Hate is not allowed in your home with the children. My mom's word was shut up. When I said it once to my sister I was told we don't say that in our home we ask people to be quiet please. I know I must have rolled my eyes at that one.
My mom's speech was peppered with italian words I never knew the meaning of but knew in a way what they meant by how she used them. A year after her death I was 14 yrs old -I heard someone say the word she would yell at us when my sisters and I were bickering or just being sisters. I asked what that meant. They told me it was shut up in Italian. That made me laugh!

  9. I love how you put this.

I figure we all have enough to deal with without getting nitpicky about someone's choice of words. xo

  10. oooo..now I have to go back and see if I said the word hate! I might have, and that's totally ironic because I HATE that word. That word gets tossed out from Jack CONSTANTLY and we battle it all the time. I may have absorbed it!

  11. oh goody...I just said Jack hates the way I eat. Totally true.

    1. Thing is, they hear it from so many places. Alex hates how I make him take a shower every night and simply because I "have the plan." It never ends.....

  12. When I was little and used the word "hate", my mom would interject, "You don't hate anyone or anything." I guess that part stuck in my heart - not so much in my mouth... cuz it still eeked out. But I thought a lot about it in the last 24 hours, and decided I just don't need that word. Just a personal choice - and not one I'd push on anyone else either but there are several words I don't need and 'hate' has just been tossed in that bin. xo

    1. It was hate and shut-up that were banned when I was little. I still don't tell people to shut-up. It seems so mean.

  13. My husband calls glitter "the genital herpes of crafting" because you can never get rid of it and it spreads like crazy...

    LOVE this post!

  14. So true, I have been working on eliminating the word "hate" from our house, I really don't "hate" anyone or anything and I shouldn't say it frustration because I ALWAYS regret it later.

    1. It's that point of frustration, right after you say something and you're like, "Rut-row." I know the feeling.

  15. I once heard Ellen Degeneres say that if you put a glitter card in an envelope and send it to someone, you should be required to put a warning label on it.Since then, I've had an even more intense hatred for cards sent to us full of glitter and confetti. Who the heck puts confetti in cards anyways?! My uncle, that's who. Grrrr.

Anywho...enough of my glitter rant. I think I must have missed a post somewhere on all this hatred stuff. I'm confused. Maybe it's a good thing I'm lost?

  16. Glitter is horrific! We made a St. Patricks day craft for my 5 year old's homework and I am STILL cleaning up that gold glitter now! (P.s. My 5 year old was reading the poster over my shoulder and he said "Mommy, why that boy saying Hey Girl?" :)

  17. I have words I don't like either. The C word. I use the word hate, fairly loosely. But not often about people. i do try to draw a line there. Try.

  18. LOL--the mascot for our school district is the Unicorn!

I've been trying to avoid using the word 'hate' for awhile now, but some days are certainly easier than others.

  19. What a very disturbing image!! I too discourage the use of the word hate in our house and I agree with everyone having the right to their opinion. Just so long as they don't shove it down my neck!!

  20. I love unicorns but am delighted that we've gone through the glitter phase in this house, and I also pull up anyone who uses the word 'hate' in this house, but I know I've been guilty of using it occasionally about some things!

Comments make me all squishy but remember to be nice. If you're not nice then what you said goes *poof.* There's your warning.
