And.....I'm back.

So yeah, we got back in last night and it was great to see the kids.  And to be brutally honest, it was even better to have some time away.  Yeah, that sounds bad but I'm standing by it.

For four whole days I didn't have to worry about who was eating what, if the socks matched, if an appointment was missed, what the communication notebook said or if the plan was being followed.

For a few blissful days I was more concerned with the tides, the winds, the shells and if I brought enough clothes to brave the beach after the cold front blew in.

I did.

Its amazing in hindsight to realize how bad off I was and how bad I was really feeling.  And when you come back, the things that were driving you nuts are no longer half as bad.  That instead of looking down, things are looking up.

When we came through the garage door we were immediately told, "You have been gone for approximately twenty minutes longer than I thought.  And Grandma made dinner.  And I don't like it.  And she burnt the brownies.  Can you make brownies and not burn them?"

"Yeah.  Umm no, I'm not going to make brownies right now.  Did you guys have fun?"

"Well yes, yes we did.  Did you know Grandma fed Gracie a Kit-Kat for dessert on Saturday?  She was running with it and choked.  Then she threw-up.  Then I saw her throw-up and then I threw-up.  Then Lizzy saw it and she threw-up.   And Lizzy was the only one who made it to the toilet."

"Grandma said you owe her big-time and it was a good thing you weren't here because we were having a puke-fest.  Now can you make me brownies?  I really want some not-burnt brownies."

And that's how I came back home, to three kids wrapped around my ankles, giving me hugs, kisses and transferring all their viral cold germs from one end of me to the other.

And its good to be home.

  1. Bonus! You missed a pukefest! I don't think it gets much better than that.

  2. Oh, it is best you missed all of that! Darn those kit-Kat bars and the havoc they cause...now go bake some brownies already! Welcome back!

  7. Welcome back, glad you are feeling refreshed.

Why do your children puke at the drop of a dime? Do they have some kind of weak stomach thing? Or is this how all children really are, but I just don't know it because I have the unusual kid that has puked maybe 3 times in his whole life?

Give your mom a nice, relaxing week off from any household duties. Then ship her up to my house for a few days so I can take a vacation.

    *Hi Lizbeth's Mom!*

  10. You know, I swear sometimes Flan and I share a brain. As I'm reading your post, I'm thinking to myself "Wow, Lizbeth's kids are really sensitive pukers!" then, as usual, Flan beats me to the punch about commenting on it. Anyway, sympathy puke is overrated, and I'm sure you feel absolutely terrible that your mother had to clean it all up.

I'm very glad you had a relaxing mini-vacation. You deserve it. Welcome back.

    1. Thanks, yeah I feel bad. Gracie had a Kit Kat before we left and she puked that. She clearly has a thing against the Kit Kat. I thought my mom saw her hurl the Kit Kat the first go-round so I was a bit confused as to why she gave her another Kit Kat. I don't know. I'm not going to dig to deep on this one.

  11. Kit Kats are food of the Gods. Gracie may need an exorcism.

  12. I'm glad you enjoyed your time away, and son't feel guilty. Shannon and I like to get away every once in a while. It's good for your mind to relax now and then. And I'd just like to say, that I love a good puke fest.

  16. I'm going to visit my sister for 3 days in April and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait to see my sis, but even more I can't wait to NOT hear "mammmmmmmmmmmy!" a hundred times before I even get out of bed. XXX

  17. Sounds like the kids just validated your reasons for leaving in the first place.

Grandma burnt the brownies? You've got to love kids who are so brutally honest. lol

  18. Thank you, you've just made me feel so much better about the 4 day trip (to NYC!! Yay!!) I am taking to celebrate my big birthday this year. Whilst I hope my girls don't get sick on their grandparents, I do know that I can make brownies with them when I get back, and even though they won't eat them (how did I raise 2 girls who don't like cake?! Or biscuits?!), at least they'll be happy making them. Glad to hear you chilled out. x
