A baseball game only we never watched baseball.

We went to a Royal's game the other night.  We took the kids out and off we went. Really it took over forty minutes to get everyone stuffed in the minivan and even then we had to turn back around and get sunglasses.  And even after getting said sunglasses we forgot them in the car once we were at the game.

Good thing we went back and got those sunglasses.

Anyway, I had visions of all of us sitting down and watching the game eating cotton candy and hot dogs from the vendors walking up and down the stairs shouting at us.

We were a family and by God we were going to have a  fun, family kind of night, watching the game.

Fountain view from our seats.  No wonder we were
in them for only 20 seconds.
No can do.

Not a snowball's chance in hell.

We were in our seats for exactly one half of the first inning before we were assaulted with, "I'm bored.  There's nothing to do.  I want to go home."

Alex started kicking the seat in front of him.  Lizzy joined in.

We were on our way to Meltdown City.

We got up and left our seats.

We wondered around and found the kid's zone.  Nirvana.

The water powered rotating baseball.
And my kid fondling it.  All night.

Once we found it we never left.  We let the kids run and play and we watched the game on the TV's they had suspended on the walls for the adults.

We spent the rest of the night at the kid's zone and ogling the fountains.

Ground fountains.  Need I say more?
Alex died and went to heaven.

We did get hot dogs and cotton candy.

Just in the kid's zone.

We spent our first night at a national league baseball game in the outfield, nowhere near the game.  Playing in water, getting sopping wet.

The kids having the time of their lives.

As for us, we never went back to our seats.  We didn't even watch the game on the TV's.  We watched our kids.

Laughing and Happy.

PS--  I had to skip posting on Monday as I was banned from the office.  The audio guys were running around here like ants trying to fix things.  Apparently calling the Bossman on Sunday morning got the message through loud and clear that I was really not happy with our system.  And the really funny part???  We went downstairs to work on balance games on the Wii and IT DIDN'T WORK.  I simply handed the phone to my husband.

  1. You could've done that at home with a water hose and saved a helluva lot of money.

  2. Looks like a fun time. We often seem to go to events only to make our own fun ;-)

  4. Love those moments. I wish I had a dime for every picture perfect vision I get in my head that does a complete 180.

Also, those ground fountains crack me up. I have yet to go those with out seeing at least one child demonstrating it bidet-style.

  5. I've noticed that it is very hard for kids these days to just sit still for longer than 30 seconds. I guess it's a sign of the times!

  6. I can't tell you how many times I've had visions of some sort of family outing, and how it will be, and it never goes that way. Never.

BUT, I'm glad this outing ended well, with much fun and laughter. That's all you can ask for, really. Other than vodka.

  10. I'm so glad you made the mac & cheese with your minions - isn't it amazing how it will just keep tasting great? SO DELICIOUS!

I think kids shouldn't be allowed to go anywhere until they are old enough to appreciate things. Like when they turn 28. Just a thought.

    Glad you had fun.

  11. Sounds like the perfect family night - minus the perfect seats! :)

  12. When I think of our water bills we used to have at home then a baseball game would have definitely been cheaper. :D

  13. It takes a lot of patience and concentration to sit in the stands and follow a baseball game. I think making it halfway through the first inning is quite an accomplishment for your kiddos. Mine would have never made it that far.

Two summers ago, pre-diagnosis, Vince and I took Ryan to Ocean City, MD for our very first "family" vacation. I set the bar waaayyyy too high, and by my unrealistic standards it turned out to be a total disaster. If I had been more flexible about things, like you were, it wouldn't have been nearly so bad. Sometimes ya just gotta roll with it. Good job, mama.

  14. Oh. my. god. I just caught up on your past few posts (more than I wish to admit) and my stomach hurts from laughing so hard. I have missed you and I'm so sorry I didnt get to see you while you were in Sanibel. Family happens- that's my excuse for not hunting you down. Okay, I'm still laughing at the things you cant explain..... I am clicking the subscribe by email button right after this so I dont miss an episode...errrr... post.

@Lisa--Once I figured out how to relax a bit and go with thing it got a lot easier. Still wish we had cheaper seats though!

@Margaret--yeah and it was totally fee! You know, minus the tickets, cotton candy, hot dogs, tokens to ride things. Who am I kidding...

@Kara--I think both my kids had water coming out their butt holes for days...

@NJAMB!--yeah, I wish they could have sat longer but oh well, it worked out.

@Flannery--always keep a secret stash, that's my motto.

    @DeeAnn--you're a sweet heart!

@Deb--it did turn out well, I'm glad the kids had fun.

@MarsupialMama--yeah, my husband snapped a pic or two of me molesting the ball. I couldn't post it---it looked like porn.

    @Suniverse--I am still eating Mac&Cheese!!!

  16. @Karen V.--I know!!!

@Amanda--we're going on round two of above 100 degree temps--the game would have been A LOT cheaper compared to my water bills!!!

@Grace--thanks! That understanding had come with time and a lot of F'ed-up vacations. ;)

@iLoveShelling--NO WORRIES! Life happens. We were having a blast on the Island and I think it worked out as it should. I'm not fussed. But I am thinking of a trip in November... :)
